SPRING NEWSLETTER
How time flies and seasons come and go but, spring always seems to want us all to start afresh, the plants are in bud, blossom appears and the spring manages to make us all feel brighter.
However, I am more than aware that the brighter weather will not stop bad news or a worrying diagnosis, make loved ones and relatives feel sad, or there may be some of us with circumstances that cause concern, some worse than others.
Telopea’s carers will always try their best for our patients and the office staff continue to work very hard to ensure a smooth operation and good communication happens throughout Telopea.
There are a lot of new viruses in the community at the moment so carers should be wearing masks if there are concerns with either patient or carer. PPE is probably the most important protection patients and carers have, so please carers wear your aprons, gloves and if necessary, masks and disposable foot covers. In addition, please dispose of PPE correctly within the person’s home. Never transfer PPE from one house to another in any circumstance.
I have also been told of carers not wearing uniform, this is totally not acceptable. Your uniforms are provided to you, so wear them please, it is all part of infection control and indeed identification. Telopea office have uniforms, polo shirts, tee shirts all of which identify you. Do not be caught out as emails and warnings have been sent out already.
Thank you to all clients for the patient feedback leaflets recently sent out it is really appreciated.
Carers, please check timers on lights and adjust for the client, if necessary, open and draw curtains/blinds at the first and last call and close any gates, it is most annoying when a gate is left swinging in the breeze.
Please be reminded if you leave a drink for any person, leave it within their reach, so the person doesn’t have to overreach, use a beaker or similar, to avoid spillage. Also, if a patient has removed a cardigan or jumper because they are warm make sure there is a throw available for them to pull over as people feel chilly quickly. Ensure slippers and feet are kept covered.
Reporting procedure as always is so very important, please carers if anything at all changes with a patient, please let the office know, as concerns caught quickly can avoid long-term problems.
Carers and Nurses please leave your area clean and tidy and please keep the kitchen clean and wiped as this is a hygiene necessity.
All this said Telopea have some amazing Carers and Nurses who also need respect. Remember, respect is appreciated and goes two ways.
Regards to everyone
Brenda
