Dear Everyone,
The weather now has really changed for winter which is to be expected but let’s all be sensible and enjoy the changing season.
Food, hot drinks and soup as well as water or flavoured waters are all good to have in the cupboard. Don’t just have food in for the day, think just in case no one can get to the shops either for yourself or the Client. There are a range of ready meals available.
‘Parsley Box’ can be found online and offer delicious cupboard pre-cooked kept meals, delivered and, they offer a good menu, microwaveable and kept in the cupboard, no need for freezer.
Ready Meals from Supermarkets – kept in freezer, or for a limited time in the fridge.
Wiltshire Farm Foods delivered, freezable or fridge kept.
Water – bottled, tap, or pre-boil tap water then put in a jug and chill and drink for those prone to infections.
Have a few working torches around and spare batteries, be prepared (power cuts), candles must be kept safe and secure when/if lit.
Clients always have a spare throw/blanket by your side, nice warm slippers.
If you have a hot drink left in a flask overnight by the carer, make sure you can see what you are doing, before pouring or better still sip the warm drink through a straw (not paper) don’t spill it over you. Tissues/wipes are always useful as well for runny noses or spills
Clients put a light on a timer, carers, draw and undraw client’s curtains, with their permission of course.
Carers, please be seen, also carefully watch out for slippery leaves on footpaths, use your reflective hi-viz provided for you, there are also fleeces, cardigans, jackets. Carry little torches for key safes, wear your ID, wear your uniform. Wear proper footwear and use shoe covers where necessary to prevent wear and tread on client’s carpets. Everything you need for your safety is provided for you. Take an extra blanket in your car and a flask/water in case you get held up, or break down, get diverted. Road works are everywhere, so look after yourself. Check your tyres regularly, carry deicers in your car as well. Deicers also help when key safes are frozen.
Dispose of your used ppe properly and please fully document everything you do.
All this said, enjoy the festivities and the time of the year. However, to some people it may be sad for them, missing loved ones and looking back in time, so be considerate.
Thank you all very much for everything you do and everyone you care for. Telopea Carers are well thought of and well respected so its thankyou to everyone.
Season’s Greetings - Love to all, Brenda
