October 2024

Dear Everyone,

With the summer now drawn to a close, autumn has arrived along with really bad wet weather, so
I am asking clients to be patient with call timings for carer visits. It seems long queues and
diversions are this month’s problems.

There are also a lot of coughs, colds and sneezing going on as well as a return of COVID. Please
keep safe and take great care not to pass on from one another. Carers please; if you have the
inkling of a cold please wear a mask, come to the office and get what you require. Gloves and
aprons are essential along with correct disposal, shoe covers are available if needed to protect
clients’ floors. Carers and Nurses, we must maintain high infection control as you have all been
taught, before the spreading of any undesirable infection gets hold.

Whilst writing and in general, thank you to all our clients, patients and staff who continue to
ensure Telopea maintains and offers the highest standard of care to all our patients. The
combination of training, trust, knowledge and care is the commitment we all want to maintain.
Bright sunny days for the next few months, may be few and far between, which in turn may affect
mood and conversation but, remember we all have something to be grateful for.

Telopea remain proud to maintain our overall rating for CQC and Care Standards, remains ‘Good’
and that we are a preferred local Council supplier and an NHS supplier.
If it helps a Health Carers position in the home could include;

• Helping patients to wash or shower.
• Serving food and, if necessary, helping patients to eat
• Making and changing beds
• Turning and repositioning patients who are confined to bed to avoid pressure areas.
• Observe pink/red marks on shoulders, heels, elbows and sacrum. Report to the office if
seen please.
• Talking with patients to help them feel less lonely or anxious.
• Prompting and observing that medication is taken.
• Helping patients with mobility problems to move around.
• Helping patients to the toilet, changing pads, creaming, emptying catheter bags,
changing day and night bags.
• Making sure the patients’ home is tidy and that supplies, and equipment are in place.
• Making sure clients/patients bins are emptied accordingly, this assists with infection
control and avoids contamination.
• Proper use and disposal of PPE.
• Taking and recording temperature, pulse and respiration. (Additional training).
• Smart, presentable, safe footwear image.
• Good record keeping
• Proper use of the App recording as trained and instructed.
• Our Nurses and trained carers can help with Tracheas and feeding tubes.
• Christmas is just around the corner. As always let’s all look after each other and do the
very best we can for everyone.

Best Regards as always from Brenda 09 Oct 2024
